If you are sick of buying gallons of distilled water for your plants, I have a solution. But there are some very important things to keep in mind because water that is too pure is not good long term for your plants unless you are regularly fertilizing! (I also talk a little bit about this in this video so please watch the entire video). I actually use tap water for the majority of my plants, bu...

How to Water Tillandsias or Air Plants: This May SHOCK YOU!
Watching intently.
When I repot, can I add additional trunks to make it fuller like yours?
Very educational, Thank You
Thank you
THANK YOU!
You're welcome!
That’s a beautiful plant, thank you for the information on yellowing leaves. My Pothos are in water so I may have to look a little deeper into the problem. Thanks again!
You’re welcome! Are you changing the water out periodically and fertilizing?
Thanks! That was easy and to the point, great instructions.
Glad it helped!
Thank you. How offten should I prune?
It’s really up to you. Depends on how long you want your plant. There is no right or wrong 😊
Thank you. I ask because I had 8, 5 or 6 foot long vines but they all started to bald so I had to cut them all off😢
The changing the water part, is that critical? What if you didn't, would the plants fail to root, die?
I’ve found that it helps to prevent the cutting from rotting.
@@OhioTropics O, that sounds excellent justification. Thanks. (I was just being lazy 🙂)
I learn so much from you! Thank you! I’m also in Ohio! ❤
You’re very welcome! 😊
This is very helpful, thank you! I have a pothos that has sat in the same place for several years and does really well. I recently took one of the longer vines and tacked it to the wall in the adjacent room. If that vine doesn't get the same light as the main plant, would that affect the leaves? They started turning yellow just on this vine and I am trying to figure out why. I also did neglect to water for a time period and then resumed, so maybe it is still healing, but I wondered if light levels affect the farther end of vines or just the main plant. I hope my question makes sense. Thank you!
2 of my Pothos leaves are yellow, but I actually water them everyday.... Is it because of overwatering?
You have such a friendly and calming demeanor. So lovely. Thank you for the advice!
Thanks so much :-) Glad you enjoyed the video!
Very helpful! Thank you!
You're very welcome!
I’m going to repot a pt palm that has a single trunk that’s leaning or bent to an extreme. Is there a way to repot it that would encourage the trunk to straighten over time? I’ve tried placing the trunk straight up and down in the pot but then the leaves all look like they’re sideways. Thanks for any advice!
It probably would be difficult to straighten out completely, but's hard to say! Is the trunk itself very stiff? Does it budge at all?
My pothos came in a chunky more desert type mix. Should I repot with a better soil that holds moisture?
Oh yes, I would for sure!
Good video, but you have to overcome saying "right" all the time (55 times). RIght? 😬
Noted!
Propagation will take place faster if you do not change the water. Changing it once to twice a week, should be replaced by once, one time, at the one month mark. And even then, if there is not a lot of visible algae, it may not need to take place at all during the root propagation period.
If you're interested, it could be a follow up video to test this. 😉
The reason behind it is enzyme release by the cuttings that repair the other cuttings and promote growth. The signalling of this by multiple cuttings is greater than by one alone. And is beneficial. If you change the water, you lose this benefit.
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for commenting :-)
Thank you, I'm always stressing about my plants, i always get them but i dont know how to care for them, but i dont want to be a bad plant mom, so this helped me a lot
Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you!!! Subscribed! ❤
You're very welcome!
Like your presentation style- very informative, unrushed, no annoying music. I'm trying to get courage to repot my ponytails. Two have been growing in the same small plastic pot for so long now that pot shape is distorted ! 😖🙄 Wish me luck!🌴🤞
Glad you enjoy my videos :-) And good luck!
I want to put my orchid in a tree. I’ve heard they grow upside down in rain forest. I live in south Florida. Can I do this?
Yes absolutely! Lots of people in Florida mount orchids to palm trees, etc.
Great video. How did you achieve your plant to be kinda short and with thick and straight stems? I have three of them and they all are long, thin and flopping over. I do love the wild look but I’d really like to have some of them more neater looking like yours 😁
It was a newer plant at the time that the video was made. More light will help your plant grow more sturdy though :-) Don't be afraid to give it direct sun. They can take it easily (especially indoors).
You really helped me lose the fear of re-potting
Glad to help!
After only having my orchid for a few weeks the flowers are drying up I did fertilize once and changed to an orchid soil
Keep in mind that when you purchase an orchid, especially if all the flowers are open, you don't know how long they have been open for and the flowers could be near the end of their lifespan. Add to this the change in environment, and it can affect things even more. Just know that with good care, your orchid will rebloom every year and once your plant gets used to your environment, you will be able to enjoy your flowers for a longer period of time :-)
Great video, very informative. Also, i feel like you deserve a huge shout out all these comments and you have basically replied to everyone. Thats impressive.
Glad you enjoyed, and I try! :-)
I’m new to propagating plants, your videos have been so helpful!!!
I'm so glad! :-)
I would love to see advice on getting nun orchids to bloom. No blooms for two years now. Thanks!
I'll keep that in mind! I've actually never grown that one though!
I just got my first orchid and I was to make it bloom more
You can do it! 🥳
Thank you once again. A very useful video. The only part I rarely do is loosen the roots. I will definitely try to, this time around. Ponytails brace yourselves, wash, trim and repotting time!
You're very welcome! Good luck! :-)
Hi there. I usually cut all the stems off after blooming. But now I have a phalaenopsis orchid that has pushed a stem right out of the top leaf, and so I'm not sure if I can cut that stem off at the base, because I'm worried that there might not grow new leafs at that spot. Have you ever had such a case, and how would you go about it?
When that one is done, if you'd like to cut it down, you can just leave about an inch of that stem at the base so that you don't get to close to the leaves. I've never actually had this happen personally, but I have heard of this happening. Good luck!
@@OhioTropics Thank you very much for your fast reply👍 Then I will try that and see where it leads the plant.
Can you use hot glue???
It would probably damage the plants…I wouldn’t risk it.
Nicely done. Clear, concise and to the point. I go forward now with confidence!
Glad it helped!
That is very interesting. One thing I am missing is while is very important to shake off the excess water from the plant, in nature there is noone to do that. May be natural inviroment is more windy so the plant dry out faster....???
That's a great question! The main reasons are that there is air circulation outdoors (wind) and usually warmer temperatures, so these contribute to the plants drying out without it being a concern.
I absolutely singed a monstera on my apartment balcony 😂 live and you learn
So sorry to hear that! We all learn from our mistakes though.
Do you ever trim the leaves so they only go down half way or do u always leave them go clear to the bottom of the plant? TY
I personally leave any leaves that are green. I only take off any leaves that have yellowed or browned.
As u were loosening up the soil you said 'Really there is not a whole lot of soil left here" I always wondered what happened to all that soil from where it had been first potted? how does it disappear over time. TY
That's a great question. Over time, it will just break down.
Love this video, and I return to it often. What do you think of orchid pots that have openings on the inner plastic pot (clear plastic) as well as the outer pot? My orchids are doing well, but I am a slave to watering them. (I use your soaking method).
Glad you enjoyed the video! Those pots are great, but certainly not 100% necessary. One thing to be careful of is that the potting medium will dry out more quickly so you likely will need to water more frequently. Otherwise, if you can keep up with the watering, the added air to the roots is great.
Thank you!
This is great advice!!!
😎🙏🏻
Oh my goodness; I’ve watched literally HOURS of orchid videos and this is by far the most succinct and informative one for how to repot an orchid. Thank you so much and I look forward to reading your blog. You’ve gained a new subscriber! Gratitude from Canada.
So glad it was helpful for you! 😊
@@OhioTropics I’m excited to hopefully have reinvigorated this plant and its baby. Stay tuned!
I have a Twin Ponytail Palm that is about 10 years old in a LARGE pot. I would like to separate them. Is it safe to do that? I DO NOT want it to die. I want to plant it in the ground.
Hi there! It's hard to say without seeing the plant, but if it has been in the same pot for 10 years, it is probably very rootbound and it may be difficult to do without shocking the plant and setting it back. You can always plant it in the ground the way it is now :-)
You rock! so much helpful information.
so glad you enjoyed! 🥳
Love it! No long explanations, you're very clear and straight to the point, awesome stationary and clear video composition. Exactly what I wanted to find out about the plant. Thank you!
You’re very welcome! 🥳
Thank you so much for the explanation! I repotted an orchid, which had aerial roots. I burried the roots into the repotting bark medium. Is this correct or should I have left the aerial roots out of the bark? Thanks again!
You’re welcome! Yes, that’s good! And there is no problem with leaving them as aerial roots too. Just water/mist the exposed ones so they don’t dry up.
Wonderful, thank you so much for the response and confirmation!
Your face is hilarious as you're telling us don't worry that LMAO
😂
What type of cloeus is that?
‘Golden Dreams’
Why do I have sad looking leaves at the base but gorgeous, firm leaves and vines towards the end?
Usually this is caused by the soil going too dry at some point (or repeatedly). The lower leaves are the first to be affected.
You teach this in a way that really resonates with me, thanks so much. These are such oddly emotional plants to take care of. New to it here, but growing into it. For sure getting the ebook.
Glad you enjoyed! 😊
Thank you. I got some flowers from Home Depot and forgot them in my backyard in the pot for a week or two and when I went back they were all burnt up and shriveled. I guess I should have exposed them a bit since I didn't have time to plant them?
The soil may also have dried up too if forgot about them…it happens sometimes!
You can just use calcium hydroxide on the foliage and it will not get burned.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
